ISABELLE DE GOUYON MATIGNON
Born in 1964, lives and works in Hossegor
Isabelle de Gouyon Matignon creates abstract geometric structures. She works primarily with metal. She favours large formats.
“My latest sculptures, primarily made of perforated sheet metal, continue a line of inquiry begun over fifteen years ago, exploring the concepts of fullness and emptiness, as well as those of balance and imbalance. The present moment in my work is one that, through perforation, constructs fullness while simultaneously allowing emptiness to pass through. The arrangement of forms also contrasts balance and imbalance. The interplay of light, both on the surface and through the sculpture, creates a moiré effect that adds to the complexity of the structure. All of this is part of an ongoing quest for lightness, weightlessness, and immateriality—like a negative echo that counters the intensity and tumult of the present moment.”.
