Art Paris
Auguste Herbin, Jean Deyrolle, Emile Gilioli, Jean Leppien, Alberto Magnelli, Renaud Jacquier Stajnowicz, Moon-Pil Shim
From September 10th to 13th, 2020
We sincerely hope that you and your loved ones are in good health and that you had a restful summer. We are going through a difficult time, but this must not stop our aspirations and our plans. We must now live with this situation and adapt. For this reason, we have decided to face the challenge and take on the opportunity to participate in Art Paris.
This year our stand will be structured around two main themes: Auguste Herbin “the volutes” presented at the gallery this autumn and our exhibition currently presented at the gallery “sensitive geometry”.
The exhibition "The Volutes of Auguste Herbin (1882-1960)" aroused great interest. Our visitors and collectors discovered another, lesser-known side of this great artist, about whom Serge Lemoine writes:
"Has it been sufficiently noted that this latter change took place from 1925 onwards through subjects drawn from reality, increasingly transposed and stylized to the point of being unrecognizable, as shown by the composition The Little Man and the Donkey, dated 1926, where nevertheless all the elements of the starting point remain present: the animal, its driver, the landscape, the ground and the sky? It should also be noted that the whole is translated into a single language: that of curves. Herbin would not abandon it until 1942, that is to say for a period of 17 years, rich in more than 180 paintings.".
For those who did not have the chance to see this exhibition, we will be offering a selection of works from this period at our stand.
We will be echoing the current exhibition at the gallery, which features the works of three painters and one sculptor: Jean Deyrolle (1911-1967), Emile Gilioli (1911-1977), Jean Leppien (1910-1991), and Alberto Magnelli (1888-1971). These four artists are among the fundamental figures of European abstract art, each in their own style, and art historian Domitille d'Orgeval has revealed to us the invisible threads that unite them.
We will also be showcasing some beautiful works by our contemporary artists, including Renaud Jacquier Stajnowicz, whose recent work explores monochrome and fracture. Moon-Pil Shim, who was selected for Art Paris in 2016 to animate the façade of the Grand Palais at nightfall, will also be presenting his latest works.
Looking forward to seeing you again, either at our stand or by appointment at the gallery, we send you our warmest regards.
