Art Basel
Auguste Herbin, Jean Dewasne, Victor Vasarely
From June 14 to 17, 2018
A tribute is paid to Anne and Jean-Claude Lahumière, featuring three leading artists, Auguste Herbin, Jean Dewasne and Victor Vasarely, along with all the artists from the gallery.
For over 50 years, they championed these artists, who have now become part of art history. They leave behind a gallery whose identity was forged in geometric abstraction, primarily French. Building on this reputation, it continued to grow by welcoming contemporary European artists, whom Anne and Jean-Claude tirelessly championed. By fostering intergenerational dialogue at their fair booths as well as in their exhibitions, they enabled established artists to solidify their reputations and contemporary artists to gain recognition and reach a wider audience.
Through this commitment, they sought to continue, in a modest yet enduring way, to contribute to the history of geometric abstraction, one of the longest-running in the history of art. They earned profound respect for their dedication to this movement. They were convinced that forms and colors generated a universal language, and we believe they were right. That is why we are taking on the difficult challenge of paying them this tribute, and we sincerely hope you will be captivated. For all practical information, click here.
