Tribute to Anne and Jean-Claude Lahumière

From October 12 to December 22, 2017

Codenamed DHV 13, this mysterious code simply allowed us to quickly identify the portfolio that Anne and Jean-Claude Lahumière published in 1980, titled: "Three French Constructs: Dewasne, Herbin, Vasarely."
It is around these three leading artists, along with all the artists represented by the gallery, that a tribute is paid to Anne and Jean-Claude Lahumière.
For over 50 years, they championed these artists, who have now become part of art history. They leave behind a gallery whose identity was forged in geometric abstraction, predominantly French. Building on this foundation, it continued to grow by welcoming contemporary European artists, whom Anne and Jean-Claude tirelessly supported. By fostering intergenerational dialogue at their fair booths as well as in their exhibitions, they enabled established artists to solidify their reputations and contemporary artists to gain recognition and reach a wider audience.
Through this commitment, they tried to continue, in a modest yet enduring way, to contribute to the history of geometric abstraction, one of the longest in the history of art. They earned profound respect for their dedication to this movement; it wasn't always easy, and it still isn't. They could have invested their money and energy more effectively in terms of returns, but they were among those who fought for their ideals. They were convinced that forms and colors generated a universal language, and we believe they were right. That is why we are taking on the difficult challenge of paying them this tribute, and we sincerely hope that you will be captivated.
