Aurélie Nemours

Measuring rhythm

From October 17 to December 19, 2015

The public encountered her work when she was 43; it was a deliberate choice, and the body of work she left behind testifies to a remarkable maturity.
Aurélie Nemours embodied humility while also demonstrating a strong commitment to geometry; discreet yet ever-present, she was curious about others. During her retrospective at the Centre Pompidou in 2004, it was striking to note how much more of her work was represented in private and international collections than in public ones.

We offer oil paintings and works on paper created between 1959 and 1992, a very diverse collection that plays on color and rhythm. She said she loved working with oil paints; the preparation and execution of her works required time, a luxury inherent to this technique. It is only when one stands before a work by Nemours that one truly appreciates the sensuality it exudes, for beneath a rigorous structure, the touch of the brush vibrates.

The catalogue raisonné of the work of Aurélie Nemours is being prepared under the direction of Serge Lemoine and will be published soon by Skira.
