In my work, light has always played a central role. In practice, I test how color changes depending on the surface's exposure to light. A color can appear dark, bluish, or pinkish depending on the exposure. What matters is the surface's reaction and how it receives the light. Relief is a particularly suitable medium for this kind of exercise.
In relation to color, the question arises as to whether Color-Light Modulations are possible only with a few pure colors, whether bright or muted, and with what tone a second color can be introduced into the composition?
A color is always dependent on a form; it cannot be examined without a support. The properties of relief give the form its full dimension. Color only has meaning when it is related to the specific characteristics of the relief.
For some time now, I have been adding to the phenomenon of relief, light, and color an opposition between matte and glossy, which has the effect of revealing the very essence of color (the initial color) or highlighting its extrinsic value (the color changed by light). These are my visual propositions for the viewer.
Upon seeing these objects, Dietfried Gerhardus explained: "With his wall objects, Sigurd Rompza thematizes the gaze, providing multiple opportunities and pretexts for knowing how to look, opportunities and pretexts for acquiring a sensual knowledge by casting an effective gaze."
